Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The meaning of this affix is 'can easily Vb', also in the sense of 'is liable to Vb', or, as Schultz-Lorentzen (1958) translates it: 'is willing to Vb'. Regardless, it is not clear how this meaning is obtained. According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary, the affix derives from a combination of V{(t)siq}V, 'wait for', and an old morpheme {yaʀ-} which has not come down into Greenlandic independently. Thus, we do not record this affix as a combination.
Left sandhi:
The left-sandhi behaviour is similar to V{(t)siq}V: It is regularly epenthetic, i.e. (t) is inserted on vowel stems. However, the initial /s/ will not assimilate a preceding /t/, i.e. either if the epenthetic /t/ is inserted or if the preceding stem ends in /t/ (or t(ə), since the affix is additive.). In both these cases, the form will thus be -tser-. See the entry for V{(t)siq}V for further examples.
