Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This affix is a nominal variant of V{(l)luinnaq}V with a similar meaning: 'completely N' or 'entirely' etc. It is similarly formed through combination of {l(l)u(C)aʀ-} and {ŋinnaʀ(-)}, i.e. V{(l)luaq}V and N{-(g)innaq}N, where the latter has caused /aq/ to drop from the former. Curiously, V{(l)luaq}V is here used on nominal stems, even though this usage does not appear outside of this special combination affix. This may also explain why the epenthetic consonant here is (q), rather than (l) as in the verbal affix V{(l)luaq}V.

Right sandhi:

Right sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, N{-(g)innaq}N. See this for details.

Inflection sandhi:

Inflection sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, N{-(g)innaq}N. See this for details.

Meanings and examples

It seem to be used in particular with the special quantitative pronouns {tamaq}N and {kəsi}N.

  • tamarluinnarmik, everyone

Or 'completely all' etc., i.e. the affix emphasises the meaning of {tamaq}N, 'all'.

  • kiserluinnatta, just us

Or 'us alone', 'us, and none other' etc., again with an emphasis of {kəsi}N, 'alone'.

  • silagilluinnaq, exceptionally good weather

From silagik, 'good weather'. This example illustrates that the affix also can be used on ordinary noun stems.
