Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This is a straightforward combination of N{-rujuk}N and N{(q)cuaq}N. The meaning is always 'enormous N', 'gigantic N' etc., and not with connotations of 'bad', which N{(q)cuaq}N on its own may sometimes have.
In narrative speech N{-rujuk}N may also be repeated any number of times for emphasis, e.g.
- qimmerujussuaq, 'a gigantic dog'
- qimmerujorujussuaq, 'a huge, gigantic dog'
- qimmerujorujorujussuaq, 'a big, huge, gigantic dog'
... and so on.
Right sandhi:
Right sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, N{(q)cuaq}N. See this for details.
Inflection sandhi:
Inflection sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, N{(q)cuaq}N. See this for details.
Meanings and examples
Note that, unlike both its constituents, this combination does not have any negative connotations.
- qimmerujussuaq, an enormous dog
- inorujussuaq, a giant
[11]
I.e., a gigantic human.
- illorujussuaq, a huge house
[11]
- qaqqarujussuit, enormous mountains
[11]
Note that this affix inherits the special right- and inflection sandhi of N{(q)cuaq}N, os it takes N{-it} in plural and drops /aq/.
- eqalussuarujorujorujussuaq, a gigantic monstrosity of a shark
[11]
With repetition of N{-rujuk}N for vividness/emphasis.
