Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This affix is a variant of V{(v)vigə}V, built from the non-productive, geminating variant V{'-vik}N. This variant is found in some lexicalised stems, but is seldom used productively. For notes on usage and more examples, see the productive variant.
Left sandhi:
Left sandhi is inherited from the left-most component, V{'-vik}N. See this for details.
Meanings and examples
The meaning is the same as the productive variant V{(v)vigə}V.
- qutsavigaa, he thanks him
[11]
From {quja}V, 'is thankful/says thanks'. Note that qutsavigaa is a lexicalised word. Here we can see that V{'-vik}N has caused (non-standard) gemination of /j/ to /tc/.
- inuuigaa, it is his birth place
[11]
Note: [uvi] is written 'ui' as usual.
- tunngavigaa, it rests on it
[11]
I.e. on a foundation
