Form and usage:

The meaning of this affix denotes a sudden change of state, i.e. 'Subject suddenly becomes Vb'ing'. Hence, it seems to mostly be used with stems denoting a state of being. On stems denoting a transition, the meaning seems to just be 'suddenly'.

The affix appears to be an historical combination of V{-ja}V and a non-productive morpheme V{llak}V, which denotes 'suddenly' or 'abruptly'.

Note that this affix will inject /j/ rather than the default sound /v/, whenever an epenthetic consonant is required by phonotactics; i.e. when following [aa].
