Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This affix is a variant of V{(gi)jaqtuq}V with the same left-sandhi behaviour, and one of the same meanings. Hence, this affix has the same idiosyncratic sandhi rule as V{(gi)jaqtuq}V. However, briefly, the rule is:
- the affix is additive,
- the segment (gi) is dropped on all vowel stems, but inserted on all consonant stems.
See the entry on V{(gi)jaqtuq}V for details. There is no explanation in the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10] for the source of the extra /aaq/ appearing at the end.
Left sandhi:
Left sandhi is inherited from the left-most component, V{(gi)jaqtuq}V. See this for details.
Inflection
Inflection pattern:
| Stem type: | q-stem |
| Inflection sandhi: | Default/none |
