Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

The meaning of this stem is 'ox', or, according to Kleinschmidt [SK71], 'horned cattle'. It is not mentioned in the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10], so its historical form is unknown. However, its form in the old orthography is ugsik. Furthermore, according to Schultz-Lorentzen [CWSL51], it declines with weakening of the final /k/, which suggests that the final vowel is /ə/, which then yields the form, I have chosen here.
