Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This is the common absolutive possessive 4sg/sg ending, denoting 'his (own) N'. Note also the archaic variant form N{'-i}.

Left sandhi:

According to Schultz-Lorentzen [CWSL51], even the singular form here is actually truncative. He gives examples such as atine, kamine from strong stems {atəq}N, {kamək}N, showing that the ending indeed is truncative.

Nevertheless, it may still optionally elide /ə/ on a /tə/ stem and assimilate the /t/, e.g. {aŋutə}N + N{-ni} ⇒ angunni or regular angutini.
