Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

The meaning of this morpheme is 'place' or 'time' of Vb'ing. The authors of [MFSJLK10] write that the two forms represent an uncertainty about the historical form (so it should be read as /ðvig/ or /vig/).

The second form may cause gemination in some of the daughter languages, e.g. Kalaallisut. The form /ðvig/ could therefore be explained as gemination displaced onto the initial /v/ itself. Alternatively, [MFSJLK10] suggest that the form /ðvig/ could be from /ð(ə)/ from +{tə}N, used to produce spatial nouns, and then /vig/. However, these are hypotheses, so we do not record the morpheme here as a combination.

The authors also note that the form /vig/ also can attach to nominal bases in some of the daughter languages, e.g. in some lexicalised constructions in Kalaallisut.
