According to [MFSJLK10], the meaning of this morpheme is 'pair or group in converse or mutual relationship'. The final /k/ is the dual marker (representing a pair), and /t/ is the plural marker (representing a group of three or more).

According to the authors, the initial segment is from +{kə}V, and the final part is a marker, normally used on numerals to create group numerals, e.g. 'groups of pairs', 'groups of triples' and so on.
