Description
Form and usage:
The old orthography form given in Schultz-Lorentzen (1958) is ipugpoĸ, suggesting the final consonant should be /k/.
However, according to Fortescue et al. (2010), the historical form is {iput-}, which is consistent with the form given here.
This is also consistent with the behaviour if this stem when suffixed with a non-t-assimilating affix like V{(t)siriit}V, which also yields the form iputseriippoq.
Furthermore, Schultz-Lorentzen (1958) also gives the transitive form ipúpâ, where the diacritic indicates an underlying /t/ (rather than *ipugpâ).
This may indicate a misunderstanding of the form of this affix, e.g. that the divalent form was formed from a monovalent form with the addition of the 'transitivizing' morpheme {-t}.
