Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This is a non-productive affix found in some lexicalised words. It appears to be a combination of N{(q)luk}N and N{-liuq}V, where the latter has dropped /l/ and removed the final /uk/ from the former.
Regarding the meaning, Kleinschmidt [9] gives the following definition: "Actor works with/is concerned with the ill(favoured) condition he is in with respect to N; Actor is concerned with N in his mind (and it weighs on his mind)."
He further states, that it at least usually denotes something that troubles the Actor's mind.
Schultz-Lorentzen [11] translates it as 'Actor is pained by N'.
Thus, this can maybe be simplified as 'Actor suffers from (or because of) N'.
Left sandhi:
Left sandhi is inherited from the left-most component, N{(q)luk}N. See this for details.
Meanings and examples
Usually something that troubles the Actor's mind.
- kiserliorpoq, he is lonely; he lives alone
[11]
From kisi, 'alone'.
- aserliorpoq, he stays away from people
[9]
From asi, 'a remote place'.
- inuuserliorpoq, he suffers adversity
[9]
Seemingly from inuuseq, 'way of being; habit'. It is not clear exactly how the combination yields this meaning.
