Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This is a non-productive affix denoting 'Actor
is full of N', or avalently 'it's full of N' or 'there is a lot of N'.
It is a verbalising variant of the nominal affix N{-ijak}N.
According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary, both derive from the same root, {yaɣ-}, where /y/ apparently has become /i/.
Left sandhi:
According to the examples in Ordbogeeraq (1951), this affix appears to have the same irregular left-sandhi behaviour as the nominal variant N{-ijak}N; i.e. it can either be truncative or seemingly join additively onto consonant stems, (optionally) weakening the consonant, so /k/ ⇒ /g/ and /q/ ⇒ /r/. It is not clear what may have caused the affix to behave in one way or the other with any particular word formed with this morpheme.
Meanings and examples
