Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This is a combination of intransitive participle V{ðuq}N and intensifiers N{-rujuk}N and N{(q)cuaq}N, verbalised with copula N{-u}V, which causes /aq/ to drop. As with other combinations with intensifiers N{-rujuk}N{(q)cuaq}N, the morpheme N{-rujuk}N may be repeated several times (especially in narrative speech) for further emphasis; e.g. with {aŋə}V:
- angisorujussuuvoq, 'it is really big'
- angisorujorujussuuvoq, 'it is really, really big'
- angisorujorujorujussuuvoq, 'it is really, really, really big'
Note: Even though this affix in principle can be used with stems of any valency, any valency-reducing morphemes (e.g. HTR) would normally occur before this affix. Thus there is no HTR-form for this affix.
Left sandhi:
Left sandhi is inherited from the left-most component, V{ðuq}N. See this for details.
Right sandhi:
Right sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, N{-u}V. See this for details.
Inflection sandhi:
Inflection sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, N{-u}V. See this for details.
Meanings and examples
The affix denotes an intense, protracted state.
- asannittorujorujorujussuuvunga, I am very (very, very) much in love
From asannippoq, 'is in love', HTR-form of {asa}V, '
Agent
lovesPatient
'. - asasorujorujorujussuuaa, he loves her very (very, very) much
Again from {asa}V, but this time without HTR. The ending is transitive indicative 3sg/3sg V{vaa}.
