Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

According to Kleinschmidt [9], this affix denotes a repetition of an action, at intervals of approximately equal length. It does not appear to be used productively, but it appears in lexicalised words and other affixes, especially V{-Vmicaaq}V.

Meanings and examples

This is only a tentative translation; it will depend on the action denoted by the stem.

  • saqisaarpoq, he walks back and forth [11]

    From saqivoq, 'he walks around'.

  • saarlisaarpoq, he is ice-skating [11]

From saarlivoq, 'it glides' (as a continuous movement).
