Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This is a non-productive affix found in some lexicalised constructions, and mentioned in some older dictionaries. It is not directly described in the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary, but according to Kleinschmidt [9] , it is a variant of V{-la}V, although it is not clear how this variant should have arisen. However, this hypothesis seems, at least indirectly, to be supported by the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary. Kleinschmidt mentions the example uumilavoq, uumillerpoq, 'grimaces', which in the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary is reconstructed as {uɣumi-}, and (they suggest) followed by {la(ʀ)-}, corresponding to V{-la}V. However, the origin of the present affix itself is still unknown.
Right sandhi:
The true /i/ in the stem will assibilate a following /t/ to /s/, according to Ordbogeeraq [11] , for example suliumatdlerpoĸ, suliumatdlersoĸ with the intransitive participle V{ðuq}N.
