Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The meaning of this stem is 'palm of the hand'. Older dictionaries [14, 17] also mention another meaning: 'flesh-side of shoulder blade' (including the meat on it), but this does not appear to be used nowadays.
According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [22], the reconstructed historical form is {ətəmaɣ}, where the internal /ə/ appears to have taken the sound [u]. This sound change is not regular in Kalaallisut, so we record this as /u/ in the morphemic form here.
Inflection sandhi:
The stem inflects with gemination of /m/ ⇒ /mm/.
