Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This stem denotes a long-tailed duck (Clangula hyemalis). According to Kleinschmidt [13], it is an onomatopoeia derived from the voice of the bird.
According to Schultz-Lorentzen [8], this stem is declined with weakening of /q/, but it is unclear why this should be the case, since the preceding vowel is a true /i/ and not a /ə/, according to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [21] (the root is {aɬɣiʀ} according to these authors). Thus, I have decided to record this stem as /agləq/, rather than /agliq/.
