Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This stem denotes 'throat, gullet, esophagus'.
According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [21], it derives from a stem {iɣyaʀ(aʀ)}, from {iɣə-} 'to swallow something', and {yaʀ}, 'place where an action takes place' (cf. V{-rijaq}N).
It appears that the old phoneme /y/ then becomes /ij/, but also with a lengthening of the preceding /ɣ/ (i.e. /g/).
