Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This stem denotes 'bracelet'.

Note that Schultz-Lorentzen [16] records it as tajak, but all other dictionaries, both newer and older, record it as tajaq, i.e. as a q-stem. The Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [21] records both forms, but relate them to the reconstructed historical form {tayaq}, hence again a q-stem. Thus, we only record the q-stem form here.

Inflection sandhi:

This stem normally declines with gemination of /j/ ⇒ [tc]. However, according to Schultz-Lorentzen [8], it may alternatively also decline without gemination, i.e. as an ordinary weak q-stem. This is not indicated in the other dictionaries, though, and e.g. Ordbogeeraq [17] only marks the declension as geminating. Thus, we only record the declension with gemination here.
