Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This stem denotes 'bait', according to Kleinschmidt [14] specifically 'a piece of blubber on a hook, on a fishing line, that is used for hunting seagulls'. According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [22], the historical, reconstructed form is {uyukkuʀ(aʀ)}, where the /ʀ/ appears to have dropped. A reflex of this consonant reappears during inflection, where it geminates to [cc]; hence, we write this unwritten, geminating consonant as (j) in the morphemic form recorded here.
Inflection sandhi:
According to Schultz-Lorentzen [8], this stem has gemination of an unwritten consonant between /ua/. In the form recorded here, we indicate this unwritten consonant as (j).
Note however that Ordbogeeraq [18] does not list this stem as geminating, so presumably it may also be used with regular p-declension. Here, we only record the declension with gemination, since the other declension is regular.
