Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

The meaning of this stem is 'Agent trades with Patient'. The stem is agentive, and if it is used intransitively, the meaning just becomes 'Agent trades'.

Schultz-Lorentzen [16] indicates that this stem derives from niu-, i.e. niuvâ, 'he takes it out (of something)'. However, according to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [21], niu- is from {niɣu-}, whereas the present stem is from {niʀuvəʀ-}, so they are not related.

Meanings and examples

And 'Agent trades' if used intransitively.
