Description and behaviour


Form and usage:

This is a non-productive morpheme found in some lexicalised constructions. It does not appear to be listed in any of the ordinary dictionaries (except Ordbogeeraq [17], which does list a -raĸ, but the examples indicate that it is a different morpheme).

However, it is listed in the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [21], and according to this, it denotes 'area or part (in a direction)'. Given this meaning, it is mainly used on spatial/positional bases.
