Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This affix is a combination of N{tuuq}N and N{-u}V, denoting 'Actor is one who has a big N'.
It is only used with verbal bases formed with N{tu}V, that take N{tuuq}N as their intransitive participle, and it replaces the use of V{ðuu}V in these cases.
Hence, the affix is non-productive, since it is only used in these specific cases, which are all lexicalised.
Left sandhi:
Left sandhi is inherited from the left-most component, N{tuuq}N. See this for details.
Meanings and examples
- tatituuvoq, he is full of self-confidence
[11]
From {tatə}N, 'confidence', and from this tatituvoq, 'he is unafraid'.
- pisuuvoq, he is rich
[11]
From the dummy base {pi}N, from which is derived pisooq, '(someone who is) rich'. There is also pisuujuvoq, which is formed in the regular way.
