Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
According to Schultz-Lorentzen (1958), the meaning of this affix is 'one who is accustomed to Vb'. However, some of the examples he gives, seem to be a confusion with a different affix, V{llammak}N, which may or may not be related to the present affix. He notes that this affix is often used with -tdlarpoĸ, i.e. V{llaq}V, but the examples he gives are merssutdlámauvoĸ and nâgdliutdlámauvoĸ, both with N{-u}V. However, these can better be explained as examples of V{llammak}N, rather than the present affix. The reason is that the combination V{llaq}V{(m)maaq}V would yield /llaqmaaq/, and not /llammaaq/, which would be needed in order to obtain the two aforementioned forms.
Furthermore, neither the present affix, nor V{llammak}N, is mentioned in the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary; and indeed, the present affix only seems to appear in Schultz-Lorentzen (1958), and not elsewhere. Thus, the relationship between the present affix, V{llaq}V and V{llammak}N is unclear.
