Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This 'pseudo-affix' is a special construction with abstract participle V{nəq}N and {nalu}V, denoting that the 'Subject is unable to Vb due to ignorance'. The construction is similar to V{nəq ajuq}V, but not as commonly used as that.

Note that the 'affix' is valency-preserving, so it will take transitive or intransitive endings, depending on the valency of the stem to which it is attached.

Left sandhi:

Left sandhi is inherited from the left-most component, V{nəq}N. See this for details.

Meanings and examples

Or 'Subject does not know how to Vb'.

  • ipunneq naluvoq, he does not how to row [16]

Note that ipuppoq, 'he rows', is monovalent, so the ending here is intransitive.

  • matu iluarsarneq naluaa, he is unable to fix the door; he does not know how to repair the door [16]

Note that iluarsarpaa is divalent, so the ending here is transitive. Matu, 'door', is the Object.
