Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This is a non-productive variant of the productive affix N{tu}V, found in some lexicalised constructions.
The meaning is somewhat related: 'Subject is highly inclined to Vb'.
Note also the productive combination V{nəqtu}V, which would be used instead of the present affix, and its non-productive variant V{'-qtu}V with the same meaning.
Right sandhi:
With the intransitive participle V{ðuq}N, this affix instead uses a variant form of the morpheme, namely {uq}, thus giving the nominal form -tooq, 'one with a big/many N'.
Meanings and examples
- mattuvoq, it is tough; hard
[9]
This seems to be from a verbal form of {mamək}N, historically {mamə}, with a loss of the final /ə/.
- piumatuvoq, he is greedy
[8]
From piumavoq, 'he wants something', cf. also the combination V{yumatu}V.
