Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
According to Kleinschmidt [13], this stem denotes 'the other' (of Possessor), i.e. often with possessive endings, cf. also {aqlaq}N and {iŋluk}N.
Here, 'other' is understood as 'the second element of a pair' that go together.
This could for example denote 'two who travel together', or 'a couple', or 'two who are friends' etc.
A secondary meaning is 'second'; this is also used as the ordinal number for '2.', as well as in the ordinal numbers corresponding to the cardinal numbers containing {maqluq}N; i.e.
- _marluk, 'two' ⇒ aapppaat, 'second',
- arfineq-marluk 'seven' ⇒ arfineq-aappaat, 'seventh',
and so on.

Notes on declension:
We list the ergative singular and plural forms here, but they are likely seldom used. The stem is primarily used with possessive endings. Note also the special, archaic form aappi with the absolutive 4sg/sg variant ending N{'-i}, mentioned in Nielsen [11].
