Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This is a spatial/directional stem, usually only used with allative case. The meaning is 'area in front (of Possessor)'. However, according to Kleinschmidt [10], the stem is not used on its own (i.e. without an affix), except with a possessive ending, siua, 'its front/foremost part', and with the allative singular ending, i.e. siumut, 'forward'.

Meanings and examples

It can also be used in a non-spatial sense (e.g. temporal).

  • siumut, forward [10]
  • siumut oqarfigaara, I said (something) to him on beforehand. [13]

This is 'in front of' in a temporal sense; i.e. in the time before the event of speaking to him.
