Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10], this affix is a historical combination of +{ci(C)ur}V + +{un}N, i.e. N{siuq}V and V{-(cc)utə}N, with the latter apparently having caused a drop of /uq/ from the stem. The former affix is itself a combination of N{si}V and V{-uq}V, but because of this drop of the final syllable /uq/, there is in practice nothing left of the affix V{-uq}V, and it may therefore seem strange to postulate that it is part of the combination. However, the meaning of this affix also seems to suggest N{siuq}V, rather than plain N{si}V, so we record V{-uq}V as part of the combination.
