Form and usage:

According to [MFSJLK10], the meaning of this morpheme is 'means for doing'. The authors note it "alternates with geminating n, after full V tə- in PE". It is not entirely clear what is meant here, but they seem to be saying that there could be a variant form of this morpheme without the initial /u/, causing gemination instead; and furthermore, that after a 'full' (long?) vowel, the morpheme would take the form {tə}.

The authors also mention a possible relation to the verbal affix +{utə}V, and that some of the forms recorded in the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10] as derived from the present affix, might instead have been derived from the verbal affix instead, e.g. Kalaallisut V{-utaq}N from +{utə}V + +{ðar}N.
