Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This is a non-productive affix found in some lexicalised words and constructions. It is mentioned in the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10] under the entry for {ʀuluk}, where they translate it as 'a little'.
Meanings and examples
- neriluppoq, he is munching/snacking on something
[Uwn]
Lexicalised, from nerivoq, 'he eats', literally 'he eats a little'.
- kikkaluppoq, he is gnawing on a bone
[Uwn]
Lexicalised, from kikkarpaa, 'he gnaws it'. Note: no HTR-morpheme is used, so this is irregularly constructed.
- qinaluppoq, he is looking for work
[Uwn]
Lexicalised. The base is unclear, but it seems to be related to qinerpoq, 'he is looking around'.
