Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The meaning of this stem is 'thunder'. Note that it is spelt kagdleĸ in the old orthography, but this /g/ appears to be spurious. According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10], it derives from a stem {katluɣ}, thus indicating that the assimilated consonant is a /t/, not a /g/. The final /əq/ is due to a back-formation from the verbal form, kallerpoq, i.e. /katləʀ/. It is not explained how this verbal form is derived from {katluɣ}, but it may be from some /VC/-deleting affix {ləʀ-} or {ɬəʀ-}, although which is unclear.
Inflection sandhi:
This stem inflects as a strong q-stem with up-declension and weakening of /q/ ⇒ /r/ before vowel-initial endings.
