Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The meaning of this stem is 'heat' or 'warmth' (in the weather). The stem also has a verbal variant, {kijak}V, denoting 'is warm'.
Etymology and form
According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10], the historical reconstructed form of this stem is {kiðaɣ(-)}. The /ð/ has disappeared, but a reflex of it seems to reappear when a geminating affix is added to this stem, cf. especially {kiccak}V, so we indicate this here with a /j/. This is never written, since /j/ is not written after [i].Inflection
Inflection pattern:
| Stem type: | k-stem |
| Inflection sandhi: | Regular stem, Default/none, up-declined |
| Sources: | [JP67] |
Notes on inflection:
The stem inflects as a regular k-stem with up-declension. As this is entirely regular, we do not record a full inflection paradigm here.
