Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This stem denotes 'loin'.
Inflection sandhi:
This is a weak k-stem that inflects with gemination of /j/ ⇒ [tc]. However, the sources seem to disagree on whether it inflects with p-declension (which is the standard for weak stems), or up-declension (which is the standard for regular/strong stems, but very rare for weak stems).
- According to Schultz-Lorentzen [CWSL51], it inflects with p-declension, i.e. kutsap, kutsat etc.
- According to Ordbogeeraq [JP67], it inflects with up-declension, i.e. kujaup, kujait, but nevertheless still with gemination of /j/ ⇒ [cc], thus suggesting that the final /k/ drops before other consonant-initial endings, like N{mut} and N{mi} etc. This is a very rare pattern.
We record both patterns, but it should be noted that the p-declension seems the most likely to be used. None of the other sources describe the inflection pattern of this stem.
