Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The meaning of this stem is 'atlantic halibut' (Reinhardtius hippoglossoides). According to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10], it is an old (PE) construction, formed from the historical ancestors of {natəq}N + N{-aq}N + N{(q)naq}N, with /ə/ having become [a] according to the ə-rule. Thus, the literal meaning is 'something resembling floor/bottom-like'. This probably refers to the shape of the fish (flat), and/or that it lives in the deep.
Inflection
Inflection pattern:
| Stem type: | q-stem |
| Inflection sandhi: | Weak stem, Default/none, p-declined |
| Sources: | [JP67] |
Notes on inflection:
The stem inflects as an ordinary weak q-stem with p-declension. As this is entirely regular, we do not record a full inflection paradigm here.
