Form and usage:
This stem has two, related meanings:
- 'Caribou bull'. This meaning is found in all dictionaries [SK71], [CWSL58], [CBBJRPIKJR97], and this is also the original meaning, according to the Comparative Eskimo Dictionary [MFSJLK10].
- 'Musk ox'. This meaning is only found in newer dictionaries, such as Oqaatsit [CBBJRPIKJR97] and newer.
Note that w.r.t. the meaning 'caribou bull', a synonym used in some areas is angisoq, (old orthography: angissoĸ), which is from {aŋə}V + V{ðuq}N, so literally 'something big'.
