Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

The meaning of this stem is 'crack' or 'fissure' or 'split' etc. It is formed from {qupə}V + V{'-q}N, where the latter affix has caused gemination of /p/ ⇒ /pp/, and simultaneously caused the final /ə/ to take the sound [a]. Hence, we record it as /a/ in the form here.

The non-productive morpheme V{'-q}N denotes the result of an action, so the meaning is similar to a passive participle of {qupə}V, i.e. 'the result of splitting (something)'.

Inflection

Inflection pattern:

Stem type: q-stem
Inflection sandhi: Weak stem, Default/none, p-declined
Sources: [JP67]

Notes on inflection:

The stem inflects as an ordinary weak q-stem with p-declension. As this is entirely regular, we do not record a full inflection paradigm here.
