Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
The literal meaning of this stem is 'washing place'. This could be a water bucket, a bathtub etc. However, nowadays where showers are integrated in houses, it is normally just used in the (literal) sense of 'bathroom' or 'washroom', i.e. the room in which the bath/shower is. Note that 'bathroom' / 'washroom' in English are sometimes used synonymously with 'lavatory', even if there is no bath in the room. However, in Kalaallisut, the word strictly implies that there is a bath/shower/washing-place present (conversely, 'lavatory' would be perusuersartarfik or simply anartarfik).
