Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This is a straightforward combination of {əðə}N + N{-gə}V, literally 'Agent has Patient as his eye'.
However, the meaning is 'Agent looks at Patient', or 'watches', 'keeps an eye on' etc.
Thus, the meaning is closely related to, if not synonymous with, {taku}V.
The stem may be used with a HTR-morpheme to give it intransitive form as expected, cf. the HTR-form of N{-gə}V., i.e. 'Agent=Actor looks (at Patient@INS)'.
However, according to both Kleinschmidt [SK71] and Oqaatsit [CBBJRPIKJR97], it may, surprisingly, also be used with intransitive endings without a HTR-morpheme whilst still retaining an active meaning: 'Actor looks on' or 'watches', 'beholds', 'spectates' etc.
Thus, it seems that the HTR-form will be preferred if an explicit (but indefinite) specification of a Patient is desired; and the simple intransitive form will be used if no Patient is to be specified.
