This is the ergative possessive 3pl/sg ending. It is homonymous with the 3sg ending N{-ata}.
Compare also the corresponding absolutive ending N{-at}. The ergative marker appears to be the final /t/, or /tə/, where the /ə/ has taken the sound [a] in this context.
