Description and behaviour
Form and usage:
This is the absolutive possessive 3sg/pl ending, denoting 'his Ns'.
Note: This ending is the single, apparent exception from the a-assimilation rule. That is, even when this ending follows an [a], it is not spelt as an 'a' in the new orthography. Thus, for example:
- {nuna}N + N{-i} ⇒ nunai.
However, the exception is only apparent: This spelling is used to allow the present ending to be distinguished from the singular ending N{-a}, but it is still assimilated in the pronunciation, except possibly for a slight j-like sound at the very end of the word. Thus, nunai is pronounced [nunaaj].
