Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

The authors of [MFSJLK10] are uncertain of the meaning of this morpheme. They record it as 'set about Vb'ing', but with a question mark indicating uncertainty.

These authors seem to suggest this morpheme may be simply the PI form of the PE morpheme +{jar(tur)}V, without the /tur/ segment. In the entry for that morpheme, they hypothesise that the /gi/ initial forms in the Inuit languages may be, or be influenced by, the morpheme +{ki}V, with /ij/ merging to just /i/, since the /j/ would become inaudible in this context. Hence, we also record that as the initial segment here.

For the first segment of +{jar(tur)}V, they write 'perhaps also +{jar}V', but it is not clear whether they believe the latter is developed from the former, or the other way around; or whether that {jar} is an entirely different affix.

In the second option were the case, it would be more logical to record the present affix as simply a combination of +{ki}V + +{jar}V, but as this is uncertain from the authors' comments in [MFSJLK10], we refrain from that here.
