Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This affix is a non-productive variant of V{nəqtu}V, where the initial /nə/ seems to have been dropped, causing compensatory gemination in the stem. The meaning is the same: 'Subject is highly inclined to Vb'.

Left sandhi:

The affix causes gemination of a single consonant in the preceding stem, if possible. See also the affixes V{'-rik}V and V{'-qluk}V, which appear to have been similarly formed from V{nəq}N, and which behaves similar.

Right sandhi:

Right sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, N{tu}V. See this for details.

Meanings and examples

Or just 'Vb a lot'.

  • oqqartuvoq, he brags [11]

From oqarpoq, 'he says something'. Here the affix has caused gemination of /q/ to /qq/.

  • oqallortuvoq, he brags; talks a lot [11]

From oqaluppoq, 'he talks'. Here the affix has caused gemination of /l/ to /ll/.
