Form and usage:

The meaning of this affix is 'Vb'ing can be heard', or 'it can be heard that there is someone/something Vb'ing'. The affix is only used with 3sg or 4sg endings in an impersonal sense, i.e. with no explicit Subject. Thus, the affix is valency-decreasing, such that the resulting stem is avalent.

Note, there is also a variant used on nominal stems, N{(q)valaaq}V with a somewhat related meaning.
