Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This affix is a straightforward combination of V{naq}V, 'it is such as to Vb' and V{llaarə}V, 'habitually/recurrently' (with emphasis). The latter is a non-standard combination of V{llaq}V, here 'emphasis', and the highly irregular affix V{ðarə}V, 'recurrent/habitual action'. In particular, the irregular right-sandhi and inflection sandhi rules of V{llaarə}V are presumably also inherited by the present affix, so see this for details regarding right-sandhi and inflection. Note also the variant V{naarə}V with a similar meaning, and similarly formed, but without the V{llaq}V component.

Left sandhi:

Left sandhi is inherited from the left-most component, V{naq}V. See this for details.

Right sandhi:

Right sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, V{ðarə}V. See this for details.

Inflection sandhi:

Inflection sandhi is inherited from the right-most component, V{ðarə}V. See this for details.

Meanings and examples

  • ajornallaaraaq, it is usually not doable [16]

From ajorpoq, in this case 'it is not doable'.

  • uuminallaaraaq, it is such as to get angry about [16]

The root is unclear, but compare uuminarpoq, 'one is angry/annoyed about it', which also contains V{naq}V.
