Form and usage:

This affix appears to be a combination of V{nqik}V, 'entirely', and some other, unidentified morpheme. It appears to have two slightly different meanings:

In both dictionaries, it seems that there is a preference for using this affix with intransitive endings, so a divalent stem may possibly need to first have its valency reduced by adding a HTR-morpheme, before this affix can be added.


Meanings and examples


This is the old meaning recorded in Schultz-Lorentzen [11].

  • ipeqqinnaarpoq, he is nearly suffocating [11]

    From ipivoq, 'he suffocates'.

  • inortueqqinnaarpoq, he is just about to be late [11]

    From the HTR-form of inortorpaa, 'he is late for it'.

This is the newer meaning recorded in Oqaatsit [14].

  • ilumooqqinnaarpoq, he is absolutely right [14]

    From ilumoorpoq, 'he is right'.

  • qasoqqinnaarpoq, he is absolutely exhausted [14]

    From qasuvoq, 'he is tired'.
