Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This is a straightforward combination of V{nqik}V, here in the sense of 'is very (good at) Vb'ing', and V{si}V, 'has become Vb'ing'. The combination is not mentioned in Oqaatsit [14], so it is likely not used productively nowadays, but it is found in some lexicalised constructions.

Meanings and examples

In a positive sense; also 'can now better Vb' (after having been worse for a while).

  • erseqqissivoq, it has become more visible; it has become clearer [9]

    From erserpoq, 'it becomes visible'.

  • inunngoqqissivoq, he has become a better person [9]

From inuk, 'person' and N{ŋŋuq}V, 'become N'.

  • peqqissivoq, he has become better (after an illness); he is now well [11]

From the dummy stem {pi}V, giving the pure meaning of the affix.
