Description and behaviour

Form and usage:

This is a non-productive affix found in some lexicalised words. It appears to be an extended form of V{vkaq}V, presumably with V{-aq}V.

Schultz-Lorentzen [10] translates it as 'far and wide', but this translation does not make sense. It is likely influenced by his translation of V{vkaq}V, which (as noted in that entry) also seems to be wrong. Hence, we shall here use the same translation as for that affix, i.e. 'Agent lets/causes Patient to Vb'. It is not clear, what the second component contributes to the meaning of the present affix.

Meanings and examples

  • ulikkaarpaa, he fills it
    [10]

Lexicalised, from {ulət}V, ulippoq, 'it is high tide; high water'.

  • ulikkaarpoq, it is filled
    [10]

Intransitive form of ulikkaarpaa with a passive meaning.
