Form and usage:

The meaning of this affix is 'Subject probably Vb', with some degree of conviction, i.e. 'it must be assumed that the Subject Vb'. This is a mostly non-productive affix; see the variant V{yuknaqsi}V, which is used productively in the same sense. Note also the affix V{gunaq}V with a related meaning.


Meanings and examples

With some degree of conviction, i.e. 'it must be assumed that the Subject Vb'.

  • taassuma kisimi piunnarpaa, he alone (i.e. and none other) has probably taken it [13]

    I.e., 'he is the only one of whom it can be assumed that he has taken it'. From pivaa, 'he gets/takes it'.

  • paatissaajunnarpoq, it can probably be(come) a kayak oar [13]

    From paatit (pl), 'kayak oar', with N{kcaq}N, 'future N' and N{-u}V, 'be N'.
